Marcus Smart is another feather in Ace Andrews' cap, an independent wrestling sensation with a highlight reel and championship history each as long as his arm…and Marcus will never let anyone at Ace Alley Wrestling forget it. A consummate social media self-promoter, "The Hero of the Internet" is beloved by online wrestling communities, a fact he will recite at every opportunity as he demands the title opportunities and main events he feels are his by right. In Marcus's own estimation, he is the only wrestler worthy of the AAW World Championship, and any loss or setback he might face is just further proof that the system is rigged to put over Ace's golden boys and bury anyone who dares to stand against the system, a claim echoed by the rest of Section 14 -- formerly just a group of fans in that section of the Wayward Inn event center, now represented by an actual group of wrestlers who share his ideology and methods. His rebellious, state-smashing exterior is belied by his mocking, often dishonorable behavior, but there is no denying that when he does stand and fight, he is an aeralist par excellence, a tactical mind that ranks among the greats… and an undisputed master of the cheap shot.

Outside the Ring

Eduardo Kasparov, the Mexican-Syrian-American performer playing Marcus Smart, got his start in Stockton Extreme Wrestling under the name Eddie Law. A babyface high-flyer with a "maverick cop" gimmick, Eddie and his tag partner, Ron Steele, were a popular mid-card team, but SEW could never quite find a good direction for their characters, until the day Eddie turned on Ron, transforming from a cocky hero to an ultraviolent, short-tempered killer who would put his and his opponent's bodies on the line just to prove a point.

As a heel, Eddie had a rocket strapped to his back, revealing an almost anti-charisma and sense of ring psychology that paired with his flashy, high-risk moveset to make him an indie sensation. Booking outside SEW followed, with Eddie making waves at BOLA and other West Coast indie shows, along with a first-round appearance at King of Trios as part of Team SEW. Eddie carried the world title multiple times in SEW and other nearby promotions, and everyone who saw him agreed that him making it to the big leagues was a question of when, not if – until his high-risk style finally came back to bite him. A routine high spot took a nasty turn when the table he was meant to crash through turned out not to have been properly rigged to give way, injuring both Eddie and his opponent, a young Rutger Paladin.

Rutger went on the shelf; Eddie Law kept fighting after a brief hospital stay, but he was gunshy of his former high spots, and the meager pay SEW was able to give him even as a top draw could no longer be ignored -- the next hospital bill might not be so manageable. When the Haggertys came calling, Eduardo saw a chance at bigger money, as the fledgling indie had big names and big promise that SEW had proven it wouldn't be able to match, even if it was his home. Eddie Law dropped the title the night after Eduardo Kasparov signed his contract with AAW; Eduardo bid a tearful goodbye to his beloved fans, a rare moment of shoot behavior from the always-in-character heel, and exited accompanied by the die-hard fans in Section 14 (minus the late Greg Landry, victim of a Bakersfield school shooting) to chants of "Down by Law." Marcus Smart debuted one week later, and brought the name "Section 14" with him.
