1/31/17 - Ron "The Real Deal" Steele Defends Himself, and...wins a match?

Week of 1-30-2017 ~ 2-6-2017

During a recent taping of Back Alley Brawl, Tom sat down with Ron “The Real Deal” Steele to talk about his loss to now AAW Champion, Marcus Smart, and about his plans for a rematch. During the interview, Steele thought quite hard about what he had been and what he says he’ll be one day again.

Ron : “Look man, I walked into that fight at Winter Of Our Discontent with a clear goal, to walk out your AAW Heavyweight champion. Were the odds stacked against me? Sure! They always are and always were! Did my adding a stipulation that I could only win via submission hurt me? Maybe… Maybe…”

Ron looks off into the distance a bit, and it’s hard to gauge if he’s happy a plan to get rid of the belt worked, or if he was actually sad that hubris was the reason he lost.

Tom : “So, listen, you did kind of shoot yourself in the foot with that whole “submission is required to win” self-stipulation. That’s not typically ho-”

Ron : “Woah! Are you saying hubris got the better of me? No way man! Even with all of his little frail cronies outside the ring, and even with his dirty tricks that I KNEW WERE COMING, the one thing I didn’t count on was Ruger Rust running out and trying to cost me the match by trying to Justice whatever the hell Spear into Marcus. Have you ever dived into the way of an oncoming freight train to save a frail little old woman from certain death? Now I have.”

A wide grin starts to creep across Ron’s face as he continues.

Ron : “Speaking of which, I was doing AWESOME thank you very much. I’ve been beaten on by some of the very best this industry has EVER offered. Marcus is a flash in the pan, a coward who can’t trust his own moves, let alone his own fists, to do the deeds. I saw his older stuff. I figured making him tap out to a move that, let’s face it, I ain’t known for would be a good way to remind him that he was better when he actually gave a damn about the fighting in the RING as opposed to the political nonsense backstage. Did I lose the match, I sure did. But I can promise you this, I’ll get that belt back, and when I do, it’ll be Marcus WISHING that Rutger comes in to save his ass again.”

Tom : “So, does this mean you’re interested in fighting Rutger?”

Ron slowly traces his fingers across his goatee for a few moments, nodding silently to himself before he proceeds.

Ron : “Say what you will about the former tight end of… No sorry, that was gonna be a sexy joke and we’re not that kinda show. Rutger has the power and the pure physical presence that’ll eventually make him huge in this industry. He just needs to focus on not getting in my way, and maybe I’d be happy to teach him a few things. Honestly, I’m looking forward to seeing him just run Marcus over. And he will. I should know, it took nearly everything I had just to stop him from running through me to break every bone in Smart’s torso. It’s a major reason I lost, not all of the reasons, but a major one.”

Tom : “Wait, are you scared of Rutger Ru-”

Ron : “WOAH WOAH WOAH NO! WHAT!?! NO. I’m just thinking a better way to spend my time would be going back to basics and getting this whole loss behind me. And there is no better way than to get myself back into the title scene with a win over… Who am I fighting again tonight?”

Tom : “You’re up against Father McDonnell tonight.”

A look of slight dread washes over “The Real Deal”’s face as he attempts to quickly put back on his brave face.

Ron : “Look Tim. You’ve got to remember that I’m a former champion, and Macdoogal is just a nutbar with collar. I’ve got this in the bag.”

------

Later that night, the two would compete for a spot in next month’s Fatal Attraction #1 contender’s match. Despite Ron’s big talk, his offense was almost nowhere as for nearly 10 minutes Father McDonnell ran a clinic on how to beat, break, and shatter a former champion. Ron’s attacks looked ineffective against him, and it was only when McDonnell dropped Steele head first onto the crowd barrier, and then proceeded to get a chair and smash Steele’s head over and over again that the match was called. Ron would win via DQ, giving him a spot in the Fatal Attraction match, but only moving McDonnell down to the losers bracket.

After the match, doctors were quick to run to ringside to ensure Steele wasn’t injured, but after a few moments and a little help, Ron was able to get to his feet and head backstage under his own power. McDonnell is a legitimate beast, and we imagine he only lost via DQ so he could tear someone else up in the losers bracket on his way into Fatal Attraction. Ron, on the other hand, maybe lucked his was into another shot at gold.
